JavaOne!

What a DAY to announce the acquisition intent-signing! Moreover, what a conference! Here at JavaOne you'll see 15,000 rabid Java aficionados ranging from greybeard scientist types to literal KIDS who look like they are in high school...and probably are. Ah, the future.

I got to spend a HUGE chunk of the day with Team CodeGear and we got on our game showing off the sexy JBuilder OptimizeIT, LiveSource and other goodies to what literally was like an ENDLESS wave of interested parties. The poor SC team was ransacked giving demo after demo. This was truly rad to see and is JUST like watching an Embarcadero 'scrum' occur at our booth at shows like PASS or Oracle Open World. Nice work today folks!

My counterpart Greg Davoll, our VP of Marketing, and I had meeting after meeting with press and industry analysts alike. All were truly stoked to hear about the deal. Many had this sort of 'sentiment' about them...sort of like a soft spot. They've covered these tools...in some cases for a decade or more...and were happy to see a re-birth of energy and focus for the teams based on the deal. Damn straight. The questions these folks posed were good ones about the deal and all are poised to hear about integration strategies, road maps...and growth. We'll be looking forward to briefing them!

We got some stats as well of the show: Attendance is WAY up...but more prolifically is the increase in vendor participants. 70+ NEW COMPANIES signed up to exhibit their wares which to me signals strong growth in the software sector....even in a period when marketing spend is down/declining.

Onward!
Thanks for reading,
Greg

Greg,

I saw mention that you like the CodeGear name enough that you are going to create a parallel called DatabaseGear. Just a suggestion: that seems to long, I really think it would be much better as just "DataGear" - easier to say and matches "CodeGear" perfectly - there's code and there's data.

Check YOU out, wniddery! That actually is pretty cool! I'll have to shop that with the marketing gurus who are going to think all that product grouping through but spot on about the branding. CodeGear is household as far as I am concerned!

Unfortunately, DataGear has been taken by the company with the same name ;-)
